PACKAGING & MATERIALS

THE FACTS

  • Packaging is the largest end-use market segment accounting for just over 40% of total plastic usage.
  • Over the last ten years the world has produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.
  • By saving a tone of paper it's possible to save 17 trees, 26000 litres of water, 4000 kilowatt of energy and 240 litres of fuel.

OUR BLUEPRINT COMMITMENT

We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of all our materials, in terms of how they are sourced, used and disposed of.

WHAT WE ARE DOING...

Packaging

We’re on a mission to find ground-breaking new packaging that will help us significantly reduce the environmental impact of all our products. We're working with government and research institutions to develop game-changing solutions that will benefit the entire industry.

Insulation

We’re replacing polystyrene used to insulate our airfreight containers with reusable and recyclable thermal blankets. This will improve insulation and reduce polystyrene use by 75%. We’re also replacing gel-packs with a more sustainable water based-solution.

PPE

We’re trialling new reusable materials to replace disposable plastic aprons and gloves for our staff. If successful, it will significantly reduce plastic use within the business.

Farms

Our procurement and agronomy teams are working to find sustainable solutions to remove the use of plastic mulch on our farms.
