Guidance Notes

The 2019 School Farm Competition is open to JHS and SHS level schools in the following regions of Ghana:


-Ashanti Region
-Central Region
-Eastern Region
-Greater Accra
-Volta Region
-Western Region


To enter, please fill and submit the application form on this page by the 19th January 2019.
It is advisable to type up a draft of your answers in Word first and then paste your answers into the online form before submitting.

By February 2019, sixty Schools will be selected by our judges to participate in the 2019 competition. Schools will be selected based on the strength of the answers provided in the application form.

Selected schools will be required to:

-Demarcate an area of land
-Grow crops as determined by a ballot
-Keep a diary and photographs to record your progress
-Develop a plan to sustain sustain the school farm after the competition has finished

Our team of judges will visit schools periodically to provide support where needed and assess the performance of schools based on the following criteria:

1) Evidence of Good Agricultural Practice throughout the competition
2) Evidence of what has been learnt by the students
3) Evidence of involvement by the students
4) Evidence of engagement with the local community
5) Evidence of how wildlife has been encouraged and an understanding of the reasons for doing so
6) Evidence of a convincing and viable sustainability plan

Schools will be invited to an awards ceremony at the end of the year (usually the end of November or early December) where the winners will be announced.
