Our Factories

We believe in adding value at source. This means we aim to produce the finished product in the country of origin, rather than process it overseas.

Our approach enables us to be closer to our farmers so we can source the best quality and return more value to communities through job creation, skills development and technology transfer.

We have factories in Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil and the UK.

Our Ghanaian operation was the first of our network of production sites and remains the biggest. We have over 3,500 people in Ghana making us one of the biggest private sector employers in the country. Like all of our sites, the Ghanaian facility is a modern facility with state-of-the-art refrigeration systems and high tech communications. The site also has a library, an internet cafe, a laundry, a creche and a cafeteria providing a range of subsidised hot and cold meals. Blue Skies Ghana is located twenty miles North of Accra near an old Cocoa town called Nsawam.

The fruits we currently process in Ghana include; Smooth Cayanne Pineapple, MD2 Pineapple, Organic Sugarloaf Pineapple, Mango, Papaya, Coconut, Passion Fruit and Banana.

Blue Skies Egypt started operating in 2003 and was the second of our network of production facilities. The site was built here in order to expand Blue Skies range of tropical and temperate fruits. Blue Skies Egypt is located in Tenth Ramadan City, which is about an hours drive away from Cairo. The company currently employs around 300 people.

The fruits we process in Egypt include; galia melon, orange fleshed melon, watermelon, oranges, red grapefruit, white grapefruit, red and white seedless grapes, Strawberry, pomegranate and dates (semi dried).

South Africa

Blue Skies South Africa started operating in 2004. It is built on the site of a former golf course near to the town of Balfour which is about 80 miles from Johannesburg. The site employs around 150 people and produces fresh fruit salads and juices for customers in Europe and South Africa. Among some of the fruits processed here are pineapple, melon (3 colours), kiwi, papaya, mango, grape, citrus, banana and lychee.

The factory also produces a number of fresh juices and smoothies including freshly squeezed orange juice which the company sells locally within South Africa.

Brazil is the newest addition to the Blue Skies family and opened for production on the 1st of October 2007. The factory is built on an area named Nascente which means “where the water springs from”, and is about twenty miles from the city of Mogi. The site currently employs 220 people and exports up to three tonnes of product per day. The main product made here is Fresh Cut Mango which is sold to retailers in throughout Europe as well as in Brazil.

There is also an onsite canteen which serves typical Brazilian dishes including brown beans and cooked rice with chicken, beef, potatoes and salads. Outside of work many of the staff enjoy samba, rap, rock and reggae!
